Our January 21 sew day marked the first sew day of 2026, and it set the tone for an incredible year ahead. We were thrilled to welcome a record-breaking 73 people throughout the day. Some stayed to sew, others stopped by to drop off finished quilts, and many joined us for bed turning before heading out. Every role played a part in the day’s success. Bad weather canceled the Firehouse Quilts holiday party in December, so it was postponed to January 7. Over 50 members attended the luncheon at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch. Guests enjoyed a meal of delicious Olive Garden food, followed by cheesecake for dessert. Cathy D. made charming table favors, and everyone received a gift bag filled with an assortment of goodies. Like many non-profits, most of the donations that Firehouse Quilts receives occur during the last quarter of the year and 2025 was no exception. Our largest fundraiser was the Colorado Gives Day campaign which began in November and ran through December 9. During that timeframe, over $8,000 was contributed to FHQ by members and other supporters. In total, almost $11,000 was donated to FHQ during the fourth quarter of 2025. In mid-January, Christie M and Barbara C delivered 24 quilts to Three Birds Alliance , an organization that provides pathways to healing and hope for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. There is always a strong push during the final two months of the year for members to finish quilts and other projects in preparation for deliveries. In 2025, thanks to the dedication of Firehouse Quilts members, 2,178 quilts were turned in at sew days. These quilts were added to inventory and donated throughout the year. Over the years, there have been countless stories about how donated quilts have brought comfort not only to their young clients, but also to their parents and caregivers. On December 11, 2025, Barbara M. and Carol G.’s husband, Bill, delivered a car full of wonderful handmade items to TESSA in Colorado Springs. The delivery included 108 quilts, 114 pillowcases, 61 Christmas stockings, 23 handmade toys, and 14 knitted hats. Lauren B., TESSA Coordinator, was amazed when she saw the overloaded car. Twenty quilts and 26 Christmas pillowcases were delivered to Craig Hospital on December 10, following the Firehouse Quilts Sew Day by Barbara C. The final sew day of the year was on December 10, with 53 members attending and turning in 97 quilts. It’s been a productive year for the ladies who have made and turned in 2,178 quilts which is truly amazing. Jacque, Lynn, and Christie delivered 17 kids quilts, 12 mom quilts, 20 stockings, and 12 squishmallows to Nick at the corporate office of Warren Village on December 8, 2025. Some of the items will be handed out at their Christmas parties and the quilts will go on beds in their facilities at the Gilpin campus. Shiloh House representatives, Ryan and Anna, gave a great overview of their mission to offer youth and families support and services to overcome challenges, helping them to enhance their success in the community. On December 4, Jacque, Christie and Karen made a delivery to Debbie, Program Manager at SECOR (Southeast Community Outreach) in Parker. SECOR’s free food market helps over 450 families facing suburban poverty in Arapahoe, Douglas and Elbert counties. Their Food for Thought program provides over 2000 food bags a week to local elementary students to take home on weekends. From November 20–25, Excalibur Outreach hosted its annual Turkey Fest Meal Giveaways at eight locations across Colorado, including Thornton, Englewood, Denver Health Clinics, Greeley, Arvada, Westminster, and Pueblo. Help and Hope continues to support clients in immediate crisis Monday through Friday with compassion and respect. They offer counseling and one-time assistance with utilities, water, rent, and other essentials. Clients can also receive clothing through thrift-store vouchers and take home up to five free items per visit. The Catholic Charities office in Castle Rock serves Douglas, Park, and Elbert counties, offering families and individuals the support they need to thrive. Through case management, clients can access counseling, job assistance, government benefits, physical and mental health care, and housing support. The November Sew Day welcomed 63 Firehouse Quilt members, who turned in a total of 189 quilts along with a large assortment of other items, including hats, fleece blankets, receiving blankets, and stuffed animals. It was the final opportunity to submit Christmas items for delivery in 2025, and members responded generously with 41 Christmas quilts, 260 stockings, and 115 Christmas pillowcases. It takes a village! Craig Hospital is very grateful for all the Volunteers that support their mission and patients. Volunteers support Craig's physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, the Peer Mentor Program, sewing adaptive supports and the Craig Gift Shop.
