CASA Hosted Backpack Event

The Child Advocates - Denver CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) office recently hosted its annual Back-to-School Backpack Event at the Alma Recreation Center. Mila, CASA's Community Engagement Manager, was excited to receive 79 bags and 40 quilts from Firehouse Quilts to help make the event a success.
The oversized bags were used as backpacks for nearly 100 children in CASA's foster care program. Each child had the opportunity to personally choose a backpack for the upcoming school year. Every backpack was filled with school supplies and paired with a quilt, helping children begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed.
Mila shared this heartfelt message about the quilts from Firehouse Quilts:
Every stitch, every carefully selected piece of fabric, and every hour of effort sends a powerful message to the youth we serve: You are worthy of effort because you matter.
Those words beautifully capture the impact our volunteers make. While a quilt or bag may seem like a simple gift, to a child who has experienced uncertainty or trauma, it is a tangible reminder that someone cares. Every quilt sewn, every bag donated, and every act of kindness lets these children know they are valued, supported, and never forgotten.
