A Record-Breaking Sew Day?
Sixty-four wonderful volunteers met at Above & Beyond Sewing & Vacuum on August 19, 2026. The tables were piled high with quilts and many other handmade items.
In total, the group turned in: 226 quilts (this may be a Sew Day record!), 29 pillowcases, 4 Halloween bags, 2 fleece blankets, 1 crocheted afghan, 3 stuffed animals, 3 fidget quilts, 12 knit baby hats, and one witch wall hanging.
The witch wall hanging started out as a kit that came in as a donation. Someone handed it to Candy G. and said, “Why don’t you make this?” Candy took it home, made it, and brought it back saying, “Never again!” But it sure is cute! Thank you, Candy!
It was very hectic sorting all the quilts after the bed turning. They were stacked so high that you couldn’t see over them! It is always a challenge to sort the quilts for the various agencies, so a big thank-you goes to all the members who help with this process.
There are so many wonderful women in this group who contribute their time, talents, and expertise to make it possible for Firehouse Quilts to provide these wonderful items to so many agencies.
