Firehouse Quilts Supports Children at Crawford Child Advocacy Center
On August 17, quilts were delivered to the Crawford Child Advocacy Center in Fort Collins by Christie, Karen, and Jacque. Crawford is a new Firehouse Quilts client that provides specialized forensic services to children who have experienced abuse, trafficking, or domestic violence. Children are referred to the center by law enforcement and human services departments.
Upon arrival at the center, each child receives a paper drawing of a blank figure. The children are encouraged to color or write on the figures and then place them anywhere in the house. As we toured the 1890 two-story red brick farmhouse, we could see the drawings covering many of the walls.
Following the interview process, children are referred to Child Safe for counseling. The center also uses a book called The Swimsuit Lesson, written by a retired police officer, as a tool to help parents educate their children about abuse.
Johanna, the Forensic Services Director, shared that the Firehouse Quilts will bring comfort to children who have gone through a difficult interview.
