The Colors Were Perfect!

During the second quarter of 2026, Firehouse Quilts delivered 31 quilts and 27 pillowcases to Craig Hospital. As always, we were welcomed with open arms.
During one delivery, Barbara C. met Tim, the husband of patient Kassi. As he looked over the quilts, he was curious about their purpose. When he learned that patients are invited to choose a quilt of their own, he was delighted to know his wife would receive one.
Later that day, Kassi selected a quilt that immediately spoke to her. Tim shared that his grandmother had been a quilter, and seeing our quilts brought back many fond memories of her. The couple, who live in the Colorado mountains, knew firsthand the time, care, and craftsmanship that go into making a handmade quilt. They were deeply grateful for the kindness of Firehouse Quilts volunteers, and Kassi's quilt will keep her warm as she continues her recovery. Their smiles said it all.
During our most recent delivery, Barbara was unloading quilts from her car when a teenage patient leaving the hospital stopped to thank her. He had recently received one of our quilts and said he couldn't believe someone he had never met would take the time to make a quilt just to bring him comfort.
As the quilts were being taken into the hospital, Barbara and Jill, our Craig Hospital contact, met Illana in the Craig Gift Shop. Illana completed rehabilitation at Craig Hospital 28 years ago and continues to return from her home in Florida for regular follow-up evaluations.
While visiting the hospital, Illana stopped to admire the quilts and was invited to choose one for herself. She selected a quilt that she said would match everything in her living room because "the colors were perfect." Judging by the smile on her face, she couldn't have been happier with her choice.
Moments like these remind us that every quilt represents far more than fabric and thread. Each one carries comfort, hope, and the kindness of the volunteers who lovingly created it.
