On May 14, Barbara M. delivered 64 beautiful quilts to TESSA in Colorado Springs, where Natalie was on hand to receive them. Natalie shared that the staff is always excited when Firehouse Quilts arrives because every quilt is unique. No two are ever alike, and each one brings comfort and beauty to someone facing a difficult time.
Natalie also shared that TESSA has implemented a new procedure to ensure that every woman and child admitted to their Safehouse receives a quilt. These quilts provide security, comfort, and something tangible to hold onto during a challenging period in their lives. She extended a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers whose time, talent, and generosity make these special gifts possible.
TESSA was established in 1977 in Colorado Springs in response to the high number of calls local law enforcement received from women who had been threatened or assaulted by their partners. At the time, domestic violence was often viewed as a private matter, and resources for those seeking help were limited or nonexistent.
What began as a grassroots effort has evolved into a comprehensive agency offering a confidential Safehouse, Victim Advocacy, Counseling and Children's Programs, a 24/7 Safe Line, and Community Outreach and Education. Through these services, TESSA works toward its vision of communities free from personal violence for all.
In addition to its Colorado Springs Safehouse, TESSA expanded its services in 2025 by opening a new facility in Douglas County, increasing access to support and resources for survivors throughout the region.
