Bad weather canceled the Firehouse Quilts holiday party in December, so it was postponed to January 7. Over 50 members attended the luncheon at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch. Guests enjoyed a meal of delicious Olive Garden food, followed by cheesecake for dessert. Cathy D. made charming table favors, and everyone received a gift bag filled with an assortment of goodies.
Barbara C. gave a presentation about the Underground Railroad, explaining how safe houses were indicated by quilts hanging from clotheslines or windowsills. Certain quilt blocks were embedded with codes to help enslaved people identify areas of danger or know where to travel next. The presentation was very informative.
FHQ members were encouraged to bring a quilted item they made in 2025 for show and tell. Beautiful jackets, quilts, and wall hangings were shared. Even though the party had to be postponed, a good time was had by all.
