Staff and volunteers at Florence Crittenton Services are preparing for a special Mother’s Day event in the gym. Parents and students are invited, and mothers will receive quilts along with other items. Graduation is also right around the corner, with 34 students graduating this year. Pre-schoolers celebrate their transition to kindergarten in a fun and memorable way by going down a slide on the playground as they are “sliding into kindergarten.”
On April 27, Jacque, Karen, and Christie met with Michelle Baldwin to deliver 60 quilts, 9 blankets, 4 afghans, 13 bibs, 17 receiving blankets, 12 burp cloths, 6 dolly quilts, 10 toys, and miscellaneous baby clothes. Michelle, the Volunteer and Special Events Manager, was delighted to receive these items.
During the visit, Michelle gave a tour of the facility. One highlight is the Baby Bucks store, which offers baby clothes, toys, diapers, strollers, and clothing for moms. Students earn “bucks” by achieving good grades, attending assemblies, engaging positively with teachers, and more. While many items are free, students can use their bucks to “purchase” new toys and clothing.
A newer addition is the on-site food bank, open Mondays and Fridays. In addition to groceries, it provides complete meal kits for families.
Florence Crittenton Services is a premier two-generation wraparound service provider for teen moms and their children in the Denver area. The comprehensive campus serves as a year-round family resource center, featuring an Early Childhood Education Center, a health center, student and family support programs, and an on-site high school. Summer school is held in June, and the Early Childhood Education Center remains open to support working mothers.
