Denver CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) supports and advocates for children with open cases in family court. Since 1995, the organization has partnered with Denver Juvenile Court to ensure that children who have experienced trauma, loss, abuse or neglect have a consistent and caring voice in the courtroom. Through the dedication of a diverse group of volunteers, Denver CASA helps children, youth and families find stability and opportunities to thrive.
On December 1, Firehouse Quilts volunteers Jacque, Sara, Dale, Patti, Cathy and Karen delivered handmade items to Denver CASA. The delivery included 40 quilts, 8 scarves, 7 large hats, 8 bibs, 4 burp cloths, 30 pillowcases, 6 receiving blankets, 17 bags, 6 hats, 40 stockings and 10 Squishmallows. Each December, Denver CASA hosts a Holiday Shop where more than 70 volunteers support families, write thank you notes, and fill stockings provided by Firehouse Quilts. This year, 45 families and their CASA volunteers attended, receiving gifts for more than 100 children. One older youth mentor shared that her young ladies chose their quilts and went straight home to spread them on their beds, thrilled to have something new for their rooms.
