On August 9th, Jacque, Karen, and Cathy delivered 40 quilts to the Ralston House Child Advocacy Center in Aurora. This center has been serving the community for over 30 years, providing a safe space for children and vulnerable adults to share their experiences and begin the healing process. Annually, the center assists approximately 1,200 individuals, offering a range of services to people as young as two years old and to older adults vulnerable to financial crimes. Notably, about 50 percent of the center’s clients are between the ages of 12 and 18. Ralston House serves Jefferson, Adams, Gilpin, and Broomfield counties.
Understanding the importance of minimizing further trauma, the center aims to conduct interviews just once, in a setting that is far removed from the intimidating environment of a police station.
One of their unique practices involves marbles—after their interview, children drop a marble into a jar full of other marbles. This simple act serves as a powerful symbol, reminding them that they are not alone.
