On July 9, Debbie Blair, the Program Manager at SECOR Cares, received 40 quilts from Firehouse Quilts. SECOR is a food bank that assists people facing food insecurity in Douglas, Arapahoe, and Elbert Counties, serving 375 families and individuals each week. Tuesdays are especially busy, as it is senior day at the food bank.
SECOR supports individuals experiencing suburban poverty and helps guide them toward self-sufficient lives. Besides the food bank, SECOR also operates a Mobile Market that travels to various locations within the three counties they serve, providing free food. Additionally, 35 schools depend on SECOR to supply healthy food for nearly 1,700 children during the weekends who might otherwise not have enough to eat.
The quilts from Firehouse Quilts will be distributed on a case-by-case basis. They will also be used in the birthday room for children who might not receive other gifts and as a part of the Christmas program to support those in need.
Thank you to Christie, Cathy, Karen and Jacque for making this delivery.
