On March 22, Roberta, a representative from the CSU Fostering Success Program, was excited to pick up the first 30 Firehouse quilts from Cathy, to be given to students in the program.
The Fostering Success Program is made up of students, staff, and faculty who are there to support CSU students who have experienced “independent status.” Independent status means those who have been in foster care, kinship care, orphaned, emancipated, homeless or other similar often challenging backgrounds. The program offers the students care packages, mentoring, financial assistance, and a community to belong to.
When the students graduate from CSU they will be allowed to choose a quilt for themselves. Some of the students will go look at the quilts during their junior year and find one they really love and put their name on it, in anticipation of future graduation. Firehouse Quilts is thrilled to be a part of this program and support students who have experienced difficult situations in their lives.
