On Friday, April 26, Craig Hospital celebrated VOLUNTEER WEEK with a "Coffee Chat with the CEO." Barbara C represented Firehouse Quilts at that event and had the opportunity to highlight what we do for all our communities, including Craig.
Both the CEO and the Craig Chaplain mentioned to the entire group what a difference our contributions make in the lives of the Craig patients.
Barbara asked again about the best size quilts for their patients. The chaplain mentioned that either twin (roughly 68" x 86") or wheelchair (roughly 40" x 50") would be ideal. With the twin size, the patient can put it on their bed and fold as needed when in their wheelchair. The wheelchair sizes are great too. She also suggested that quilts with different shades of one color work too, for example patterns with shades of blue, shades of green, etc. They don't all have to have a theme. Pillowcases are an added bonus that they love and appreciate.
This was very helpful. I have a lot of "calming" colors, and light backgrounds. Should we wash the quilts before donating?? Especially quilts with colors that could bleed with each other.
