On April 2, Jacque, Christie, Karen, and Cathy delivered a generous donation to New Legacy Charter School in Aurora. The delivery included 42 quilts, 4 afghans, 2 fleece blankets, 20 receiving blanket and burp cloth sets, 6 additional burp cloths, 4 stuffed toys, and 18 hats. During our visit, Sara, the high school principal, graciously gave us a tour of the school.
New Legacy, which opened in 2015, is a small charter school that serves high school students with a specialized curriculum designed to meet the unique needs of teen parents—both mothers and fathers—as well as their children, from birth to age five.
The school currently has 98 students enrolled, including 8 expectant mothers, and cares for 60 babies and young children. With an impressive graduation rate of 80%—60% higher than the national average for teen parents—New Legacy is making a real difference in the lives of its students. In fact, 61% of seniors graduate with at least one professional license or certification, equipping them with valuable skills for their future.
