On August 7, the Board members of Firehouse Quilts attended a meeting of the Blue Spruce Kiwanis in Evergreen to share the mission of Firehouse Quilts. Founded in 1969, this Kiwanis branch is made up of dedicated volunteers committed to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Kristy Tolan, President of the club, and approximately 15 members were in attendance.
A big project they discussed was a cornhole tournament to raise funds for an all-inclusive park in the Bergen Park area, designed to accommodate children of all abilities. Other community projects include a Halloween Walk in downtown Evergreen, a shoe drive, a pancake breakfast at Wilmot Elementary School, and maintaining a cabin at the Easter Seals camp.
Christie, Sara, Cathy, and Jacque discussed the history of Firehouse Quilts and showed examples of quilts that are donated across Colorado. It was good to learn about another non-profit who supports children in need.
